DEBATING SOCIETY: VERBATTLE



Oratory skills, Logical reasoning and factual Knowledge are the fundamental leadership qualities. The Debating Society of the College provides a forum through which students can hone their oratory and analytical skills while learning to work as a team. It actively organizes many Debate Competitions at intra-college, inter-college as well as inter-university levels every year. Our students take part in these competitions and win many accolades and prizes.


The debating society regularly organised intra-college debate, essay and MUN competitions during last year as well. From 12-14th  October the students participated in Pacem IMUN in Jodhpur, Kaavya Chhabra, Maths (Hons), 1st year and Neeraja Nair, Political Science (Hons) 1st year were awarded 'Special Mention' and 'Verbal Recognition' respectively. 

On 22 January Shraddha Sharma Pol Sci.(Hons.) I Sem participated in Ekagra, an Essay Writing competition organized by ABVP Central Zone, on the topic “The Philosophy of Swami Vivekananda” and won the 1st prize.

On 7th February, as part of the College Festival Saarang, the society organized a debate competition on the topic “The prohibition of cell phones in the classroom will facilitate a better educational environment”. Priya Rana (B.Com Prog. II year) won the III prize in the Individual category and Ridhi Gaba (B Com Prog II year) and Neeraja Nair (Pol Sci. Hons I year) of our college won the III prize in the Team category. 

On 24th  February the society organized a conventional debate on the topic “Citizens have a larger role to play in the resolution of the problem of pollution as compared to the government.” Garima Kumar (B. El. Ed, II year) was declared the winner. 

Students also participated in IMUN at NUJS Kolkata, SYMMUN (Symbiosis Model United Nations) , Declamation Competition in University of Jammu, Debate Competition at Lady Irwin College, etc. Vidya Bharti (B. El. Ed. II year) participated in a Creative Writing Competition organized by Vivekanand College on the topic, “If I could go back in time…” and won the III prize. She also won 1st position in Creative Writing competitions at Jesus and Mary College and Keshav Mahavidyalya and 2nd  Prize in Motilal Nehru College.
